WINTER NOT OVER

Old man winter might just get one last laugh. Looking at some of the synoptic scale model data in the medium to long range we see indications that winter isn’t quite done. While February has featured mostly above average warmth that may change as we head into March as we see evidence of a potential pattern change. If the below image is anywhere near correct that would mean a pattern similar to December but with a more active jet stream. This would indicate troughing over our area and that would allow colder air to filter in here.

A look at the temperature outlook from the Climate Prediction Center over the next month calls for equal chances of above or below average warmth. However it does call for above average precipitation. It’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out going forward. Be sure to visit our blog often for new content.
