1/7/2021: Colder Days Ahead?

Model support is increasing for temperatures that are well below average for our entire region. This could mean, at minimum, several consecutive days with widespread highs in the 20s and lows in the 10s. The Hazardous Temperature outlook released today by the Climate Prediction Center targets the January 19-21 period. The 21st is when their current 14-Day outlook ends. Models indicate the potential of at least a few more days of colder temperatures beyond that. This is all due to the increasing likelihood that the Polar Vortex breaks in two and one of those pieces takes a nosedive toward the Ohio Valley. We’ll keep monitoring.
